Chicken Boarding

Hens and cockerels are welcome to stay while you're away. Your chickens can have a holiday too! Just bring them to us in a box or carrier and we will do the rest.

The coops we use are designed and made by ourselves especially for boarding to be spacious, secure and easy to clean.

They are made from recycled plastic and can be broken down into their component parts for thorough cleaning in a matter of minutes.

Each has two long perches with rounded edges and two nest boxes.

The internal floor space (minus nest boxes) is 95cm x 100cm (37" x 39"). The nest boxes are 33cm x 32cm each (13" x 12").

The pens are 4.8m x 2.1m (15' 10" x 6' 11") each and are placed on a concrete slab (a special agricultural mix designed for animal pens) so foxes can't dig in, the pens can't get waterlogged during inclement weather and so they can be thoroughly cleaned between bookings.

We put fresh straw down for each booking and change it as required during the birds stay.

We use Fresh Bed in the coops which is a chopped straw product treated with pine oils to give it anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

 

 

We charge per pen as follows:

£7.00 per night with a minimum charge of £20 or £42 per week.

Full payment in cash or cheque on drop off.

Each pen can accomodate up to ten large fowl or up to sixteen bantams so if you have more birds than that you will need to book more than one pen.

Your hens will be given layers pellets and fresh water each morning with more water during the day if it's needed in hot weather. Mixed corn and greens will be given in the afternoon.

Your chickens will be secured in the coop at night so they are completely safe.

Please check your birds carefully before you bring them as we obviously can't accept sick birds due to the inherent risk of cross contamination.

If a bird becomes ill during our care then we will take it to our vets unless you have instructed us not to do so. All vet bills will need to be settled on collection.

We can save any eggs that your girls lay while with us for your return if you would like.
